🌍 Age of Discoveries: Seven Clubs, One Journey
On Monday evening, seven Toastmasters clubs gathered at the stunning Miradouro da Capela de São Jerónimo for a truly unforgettable outdoor meeting. Under the theme "Age of Discoveries," we set sail together—not across oceans, but towards new ideas, new friendships, and new speaking adventures.
Our Toastmasters of the Day, Mafalda de Lencastre and Tânia Leitão Carvalho, brilliantly embraced the theme as our #Queen and fearless #Pirate, steering the session with energy, humour, and plenty of maritime spirit. They proved that every great voyage needs both a visionary leader... and someone willing to challenge the map! 🏴☠️👑
Keeping our expedition on course was Edgar Ramos Varela, our Sergeant at Arms, while João Luís, as Timekeeper, ensured that every part of our voyage stayed on schedule. Nuno Gomes, MBA carefully counted every "um" and "ah" as Ah-Counter, and Maria Teófilo, our Grammarian, charted the linguistic waters, with the report expertly delivered by Daniel.

The prepared speeches took us on two very different but equally engaging journeys. Vladyslava Prykhodko opened the speaking programme, followed by Dan Shein, both inviting us to discover fresh perspectives. Their voyages were then enriched by thoughtful evaluations from Fabricio Monteiro and Sara Magalhaes, before Susana Teixeira, as General Evaluator, brought the entire expedition together with insightful observations.
One of the highlights of the evening was undoubtedly the Table Topics activity. Instead of individual speeches, participants worked in teams inspired by the Portuguese navigators and the Age of Discoveries. Each crew had to make strategic choices, solve challenges, communicate effectively, and demonstrate leadership under pressure. It was a creative, dynamic, and highly entertaining exercise that reminded us that every great discovery begins with collaboration—and the courage to #Sail into the unknown.
As the sun set over the Tagus, the evening became much more than a Toastmasters meeting. It was a celebration of connection between clubs, of learning beyond our usual horizons, and of the spirit that makes our community so special.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who made this event possible. Organising a meeting for seven clubs is no small feat, and the result was simply outstanding. From the planning team to every volunteer who contributed behind the scenes, thank you for your dedication, creativity, and countless hours of work.
